The RDP Electronics D5/AW series of precision submersible LVDT displacement transducer units employ the LVDT transducer principle which means that they are very robust as well as being very accurate. They are designed to provide high precision measurement in industrial environments. All external metal components of the position sensor are stainless steel and low friction bush bearings are used to ensure sub-micron repeatability. The thick steel casing ensures both excellent magnetic screening and easy mounting of the submersible lvdt displacement transducer in the measurement application.

The D5/AW units are sealed in such a way as the liquid in which they are submerges is isolated from the coils and any of the electrical parts of the sensor. However, the fluid is free to enter the armature tube (the tube that contaings the moving armature). As the end of this tube is sealed, the liquid can get no further. Fluids that are not magnetic have no effect on the operation of the sensor. The design of the D5/AW position sensor resembles a piston and as such it should be noted that mechanical frequency response may be reduced in underwater applications.

The D5/AW LVDT transducer units are made from stainless steel and are designed for measurement of position in water and other non-corrosive liquids. If your application is in saline solutions or other corrosive or abrasive fluids, please contact RDP Electronics for advice.
