By using a true angular measurement approach NXP’s magneto-resistive (MR) angular sensors work accurately and reliably with no magnetic field strength variations. MR sensors operate virtually independent of magnet shifts and drifts due to lifetime, thermal influences or mechanical stress. They enable angular measurements with high accuracy by an excellent linearity and temperature drift behavior. Our magnetoresistive angle sensors offer clear advantages over devices employing other sensing methods. MR sensors give an output signal virtually independent of magnet tolerances, magnet temperature coefficients, magnet-sensor distance and positioning tolerances.

Descriptive summary

Achieving high accuracy and performance, our angular sensors are ideal for a variety of demanding automotive applications. NXP provide cost-effective sensor solutions which help to meet tough emission targets. Ideal for high precision angle measurement applications, the sensor systems of the KMA200 family combine the MR sensor-head and the signal conditioning IC in a special multi-chip package. Furthermore each device is pre-calibrated and can be programmed for application specific output characteristics with the sinusoidal raw output signals externally processed according to the individual application requirements.

 
Capacitive sensors
For an optimized response to the environment, use NXP capacitive proximity sensors for detection and self-calibration. The sensors compensate for changes, such as varying humidity or contamination on the electrode.

Descriptive summary

Compared to alternative switches and sensors, capacitive options have a number of advantages. Resistance-based sensing relies on contact, but capacitive sensors can switch without contact due to proximity sensing. And without the need for foil on the switching area, materials costs are reduced.

New Fast-mode Plus devices operate at 1 MHz up to 540 pF
NXP's new I²C Fast-mode Plus (Fm+) devices go from zero to 1 MHz so you can go to the next design level with higher data rates and up to 540 pF bus loading. In computing, telecom and networking systems architecture the trend is for greater use of I²C-bus as a maintenance and control bus, so more bandwidth and more devices on the bus is required.

Application examples
The I²C-bus appears in virtually every application. In cellular handsets, LED blinkers and dimmers can control keypad, fun lighting and status LEDs. These ICs can also be used for more advanced status or illumination control while off-loading host processors in LCD displays. LCD segment or LCD matrix drivers with an I²C interface are ideal for cordless telephone handsets.

I²C serial EEPROM can store preset information in an MP3 player or large LCD display, where PAL or NTSC settings during manufacture are set using I²C DIP switches. For environmental sensing, I²C temperature sensors can monitor local temperatures: particularly important in wireless basestations, where I²C repeaters / hubs / extenders are also used, to isolate capacitance from the backplane.

Compact and easy to design in, NXP's magnetoresistive rotational speed sensors provide a simple and cost-effective rotational sensing solution. They are ready to use and include the sensor, a back-biasing magnet and an advanced signal conditioning IC, all housed in a special multi-chip package.

The well-tried and trusted KMI1xx technology provides high robustness against large magnetic fields and high temperatures, and is very stable over temperature and life time. A choice of 3 different back-biasing magnets covers sensing of active or passive targets.
