  Company information
   Sirius Communications
is an industry innovator and produces state of the art custom and standard Spread Spectrum ASICs for the telecommunications market. Sirius Communications has a profound telecommunications background on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology.

CDMA techniques are becoming dominant in Digital Communications Products. Sirius Communications’ CDMA technology is helping customers worldwide to embed CDMA in numerous wireless and wireline communications products.

This proprietary CDMA know-how has been developed in and is based on projects in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA) starting from 1989 on.

Sirius Communications is open to participate in Proposals concerning the specific programmes implementing the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities (1998-2002). Find more about our interest to participate with European partners.

Reasons for Success
of Sirius Communications’ CDMA technology are the support by easy-to-use CDMA Development tools and software, and the important reduction of size, cost and power consumption of the products they are integrated in.

CDMA ICs
The Sirius Communications’ chips implement Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum techniques. These CDMA ICs have the ability to function in a wide variety of CDMA telecommunication systems and have either an on-chip 32-bit ARM processor or an interface to an external processor. Many parameters of the on-chip transmit and receive functions are programmable. Moreover, Sirius Communications’ ICs support also Synchronous and Quasi-Synchronous CDMA.

Flexible Development Boards - A Designer’s Best Tool

Designers working on CDMA applications will find that they need to reach “proof-of-concept” stage as early as possible. Reducing the development time is a key issue. This is best done with flexible Development Boards based on the flexible CDMA Spread Spectrum chips.

Sirius Communications can help your product development in many ways including the provision of CDMA Development Board platforms and Development Software. These will allow you to start your development the right way as soon as possible.

    The CDMA Development Accelerator

features an easy-to-use, PC-based user interface to configure the high-speed spread spectrum transceiver ICs and to set tracking loop parameters for each application. The Accelerator allows rapid deployment and fine-tuning of system parameters in the field prior to product development. This versatility is crucial because the requirements on SNR, bandwidth, IF rates, symbol rate, modulation scheme, PN code family, Doppler shifts, Doppler rates, bit error rate and clock jitter can differ from one application to another. The CDMA Development Accelerator also allows a fast interface with your PC to quickly download programmer’s code.

An extended Development Software Package is available that includes source code, allowing further customization for acquisition, tracking and data formatting, along with a FEC Decoder Module.

Evidently, the Development KIT allows you to connect one master and several slave CDMA Development Boards in a Synchronous CDMA (S-CDMA) mode for your base station and network software development purposes.

FEC functions can be executed on plug-in FPGA-based boards. These so-called Gemini Development Boards may also be used to provide specific I/O functions and as interfaces to the RF front-end. After proper programming, the capabilities of your packaged Development Board allow you to perform demonstrations in actual field trials.

For high data rate applications, Sirius Communications can offer you “ASAP Development Board” solutions, where the level of hardware integration is taken even further.

From Feasibility to Custom ASIC design

Developing a new CDMA product around Sirius Communications’ off-the-shelf chips and components will get your product to market quickly.

Certainly where high volumes are anticipated, the design team from Sirius Communications can design new hardware for your application. The main motivators for a custom chip are further reductions in size and cost.
Extensive experience in designing CDMA-based ASIC solutions enables Sirius Communications’ designers to help you in your CDMA-based system design. Thanks to the clear focus on CDMA technology and the many years of ASIC and FPGA design expertise, Sirius Communications can offer you a faster and more competitive turn-around development cycle.

Our designers will work closely with you ensuring a fast time-to-market. Your CDMA ASIC can also contain a ARM7TDMI core which will give excellent MIPS/Watt performance at low cost. In this way, you will get an important competitive advantage by using the best suited CDMA component as soon as possible!
