Description:
The computer industry uses high frequency diodes (mostly Schottky diodes) in a number of non-traditional applications. Low Rs diodes that can bleed off large amounts of current are used for squelching spikes on power supply lines. Anti-parallel diode pairs can "eat up" reflections on high speed data lines, preventing distortion errors. Diodes can also provide external "quick fixes" for some "bugs" in high speed ASICs, allowing complex new products to be brought to market more quickly. These uses occur in processors, disk drives, and some peripheral devices such as fax-modems and printers.

The use of radio to connect peripheral devices without wires or to network machines is covered in the "data terminal" market.
