MIFARE® for the CardTech/SecurTech '97 conference cards

The Official Conference Card Program at CardTech/SecurTech '97 (May 19-22, Orlando/Florida) will be the first live application of multi-technology multi-application smart cards in North America. The cards issued to seminar registrants incorporate contactless MIFARE® Technology, contact as well as magstripe technology and can be used for different applications during the four days of the Conference.

The expected 2,250 Conference Delegates may use the contactless MIFARE® interface on the card for:

  • registration
  • access to seminar rooms
  • loyalty redemption
The contactless MIFARE® chip is encoded with the delegate's individual seminar privileges. At meeting room entrances, delegates simply tap their card over the reader, a pleasant tone rings and a welcome is displayed on the computer screen. In addition, access to the seminar rooms is combined with a seminar loyalty program. Every time delegates attend a seminar session they collect a seminar point. At the end of the show they can redeem these points for collectable smart cards from MasterCard, US West, Western Wireless and others. The more points someone has, the more collectable cards they can receive.

All 7,500 attendees at CTST '97 will be issued cards. The additional services supported by the card are a contact-based electronic purse for vending, lunch ticketing and proceedings distribution. For exhibitor lead tracking and the message centre the magstripe is used.

The CTST Conference Card Team which provided equipment and integration services for the CTST Card 1997 consisted of Gemplus for cards and project management, Philips Semiconductors providing MIFARE® chips, Debitek for the vending implementation, PTI for the SmartCity® Stored Value Application, 3GI for the seminar loyalty application, OKI supplying the value checkers and Verifone providing terminals for the box lunches and proceedings.
