Philips' Semiconductors TriMedia Group announces support agreement with Origin

Global Information Technology Services Firm to Deliver Worldwide Software Development and Systems Integration Support for the Philips TriMedia Processor.

BOSTON, Mass. - August 5, 1997 - Philips Semiconductors today announced that Origin, a global information technology services firm, will support TriMedia customers with software development and systems integration support. Under terms of the agreement, Origin will support a suite of TriMedia software tools for developing multimedia solutions that leverage the performance of the TriMedia media processor, including software libraries, compilers, debuggers and emulators. Effective immediately, Origin will provide TriMedia developers with service and support through Origin's network of more than 500 technical application specialists around the world.

Because of the breakthrough TriMedia VLIW (very long instruction word) compiler technology, third party developers can easily develop or port advanced multimedia applications to the TriMedia processor for use in information appliances such as video telephones, graphics accelerator boards and video conferencing systems. The tools for TriMedia allow the developer to compile and debug applications in the C and C++ programming languages, and then simulate execution on the TriMedia processor, providing a high level of control and testing at each design stage.

Our partnership delivers additional resources to the growing community of TriMedia developers and is another step to establish the TriMedia processor as an open platform for media processing applications," commented Frank Caris, Philips TriMedia Software Product Manager. "Philips and Origin are providing tools and services that will convert TriMedia components into complete system solutions. Together, we are providing comprehensive support for third parties to help them bring high-performance information appliances to market.

Origin will offer a range of services to TriMedia customers, including consulting and help desk support, as well as development of custom software libraries and drivers "Origin's in-depth knowledge of the TriMedia architecture makes us uniquely qualified to provide advanced software and technical support to third party developers worldwide," said Hans Van Rietschote, international business development director of Origin. "The power and FLEXibility of the TriMedia chip, paired with Origin's world-class software and consulting services, offers third parties a compelling package that can help speed the delivery of exciting new products to market.
