Philips Semiconductors has appointed Scott McGregor as senior vice president and general manager of the company's new Emerging Business Unit.
Mr McGregor, who is 41 and US-based, brings more than 20 years of industry experience to Philips Semiconductors' management team. In his new role, he will report directly to Arthur van der Poel, Philips Semiconductors' chairman and chief executive officer, and direct the company's innovative product groups including TriMediaTM, Handheld Computing, Mass Storage and Identification from emergence to maturity. In addition, Mr McGregor's responsibilities will include creating new business opportunities by commercialising technology innovations from the company's world-renowned Research Labs. "Scott's background is rich in innovation - from working at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Centre on the first personal computers to designing Microsoft's flagship WindowsŁ product. Before joining Philips Semiconductors, Scott McGregor was senior vice president and general manager at Santa Cruz Operation, Inc., a provider of network computing solutions. His former career includes managing a software laboratory for Digital Equipment Corporation. He received his master's degree in computer science/computer engineering and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Stanford University. With this latest addition, Philips Semiconductors now consists of five Business Units (BUs). Three are headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands: Consumer Systems headed by Guenther Dengel, Telecom Terminals headed by Hein van der Zeeuw and Discrete Semiconductors headed by Leon Husson. The other two BUs are headquartered in Sunnyvale, California: MultiMarket Products headed by Ross Anderson and Emerging Business headed by Scott McGregor.
