Philips Semiconductors, the largest European semiconductor manufacturer, has introduced a new range of low on-resistance 'logic-level' power switching MOSFETs for use in power sensitive applications such as cellular and cordless telephones, laptop PCs and PDAs. BSH-Series power MOSFETs feature on-resistance (Rds(on)) values as low as 0.09 ohms when driven by standard CMOS/TTL logic levels. In addition to the reduced power loss associated with their low on-resistance, the availability of many types in SOT23, SOT363 or TSOP6 surface-mount packaging contributes to reductions in the size and weight of equipment. Philips Semiconductors is the first manufacturer to offer low-resistance MOSFETs in the ultra-small SOT363 (SC88) surface-mount package. Unlike other power MOSFETs on the market, the performance of many BSH-Series devices is fully specified for gate voltages as low as 1.8 V. This not only makes it much easier for design engineers to evaluate circuit performance under worst-case conditions, it also allows them to use BSH-Series MOSFETs with confidence in the latest generation of 3-volt mobile phones. "In battery powered equipment such as mobile phones and laptop computers, where every last drop of battery power is required to keep the unit operational for as long as possible between recharges, power losses must be kept to an absolute minimum," explained product marketing manager Jan-Willem Reynaerts. "The extremely low Rds(on) values of BSH-Series power MOSFETS ensure that minimal power is wasted in the equipment's power control and switchmode DC/DC converter circuitry." N-channel BSH-Series power MOSFETs (BSH1xx type numbers) are available in 20 V, 30 V and 60 V versions, with drain current ratings between 0.7 A and 2.5 A. These are complemented by 12 V, 30 V and 60 V p-channel MOSFETs (BSH2xx type numbers) with drain current ratings between 0.3 A and 1.9 A. All types are available now for volume delivery. Philips Semiconductors, a division of Philips Electronics NV, headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, is the ninth largest semiconductor supplier in the world and the fourth largest supplier of discretes in the world. Philips Semiconductors' innovations in digital audio, video, and mobile technology position the company as a leader in the consumer, multimedia and wireless communications markets. Sales offices are located in all major markets around the world and are supported by systems labs. |
