Philips Semiconductors and Momentum Data Systems team to provide development support for TriMedia processor

Leading DSP consulting firm first to offer comprehensive services for TriMedia-based software and product applications

Philips Semiconductors today announced that Momentum Data Systems (MDS) is providing comprehensive support services for manufacturers and software developers creating products based on the Philips Semiconductors TriMedia™ very-long instruction word (VLIW) processor. Additionally, Momentum Data Systems is offering a TriMedia Developers Kit based on technology and software licensed from Philips Semiconductors.

MDS is the first company authorized by Philips Semiconductors to provide the complete range of hardware and software development services and tools for the TriMedia processor. Specifically, MDS will manufacture TriMedia Reference Design Boards, provide customer support, conduct training classes and develop software modules. Philips Semiconductors and MDS have been working closely during the past six months training MDS engineering, software development and support personnel and developing procedures to ensure MDS customers receive support based on up-to-the-minute technical information.

Currently, twelve other companies work with the TriMedia Business Line providing individual support components such as software tools and software development and integration services. Through these relationships with third party companies, Philips Semiconductors is encouraging a wide range of applications based on the TriMedia processor, which fully leverage the benefits of the processor's open architecture and powerful VLIW scheduling compiler.

"The TriMedia processor and its software development tools are the kind of leading-edge multimedia and signal processing technologies that our customers demand," said Dr. Jerry Purcell, CEO and president, Momentum Data Systems. "Providing design, consulting and support services to manufacturers developing products and applications for the TriMedia processor is an exciting opportunity for MDS."

"Momentum Data Systems and its founder, Dr. Jerry Purcell, are highly regarded as experts in digital signal processing technology," said Cees Hartgring, general manager, Philips Semiconductors TriMedia Business Line. "Through this relationship, MDS will apply that experience to help others develop innovative products and software applications based on our product, and will provide cost-effective development and training services for all customers."

The MDS TriMedia Developers Kit features a MDS-manufactured TriMedia Reference Design Board, the TriMedia Software Development Environment (SDE), including the unique VLIW C language compiler, simulator, application code modules, extensive documentation and video training materials. The SDE's compilation system handles all of the VLIW instruction scheduling, allowing a TriMedia processor to achieve up to four billion operations per second.

The MDS TriMedia Developers Kit is available now from Momentum Data Systems at a price of $4995 (USD).
