Philips Semiconductors' new AHC/T logic family provides fast, true mixed-voltage solution

Low-power, high-speed AHC/T family adds depth to Philips Semiconductors' logic portfolio

Philips Semiconductors today announced the availability of a new Advanced High-speed CMOS/TTL (AHC/T) logic family with low-power and true 5 volt/3.3 volt handling capabilities targeted for telecommunications and portable applications. The AHC/T family adds depth to the existing Philips Semiconductors' logic portfolio with an initial offering of 24 device types.

"New applications in the portable computing and telecommunications markets can now take advantage of the improved speed and true mixed-voltage capability offered by our new AHC/T product family," said Catherine de Villeneuve, worldwide director of marketing, Logic Products Group at Philips Semiconductors. "We are providing the strong alternate source for AHC/T logic that our customers demand."

The AHC/T logic family is optimal for portable applications such as notebook computers and hand-held devices that require low dynamic and static power consumption to prolong battery life. Additionally, for networking and telecommunications applications where high speed is required, these devices perform with typical propagation delays of 5.3 ns and are fully TTL compatible. The combination of low power consumption, true mixed-voltage handling capability, a wide supply-voltage operating range (2.0 volts to 5.5 volts) and improved speed offers maximum versatility to designers.

The family is available in the industry-standard SO and low-profile TSSOP packages as well as PicoGate, the industry's smallest IC package. PicoGate is ideal for saving space in applications such as hand-held organizers and digital cameras, where a small footprint is crucial.

The AHC/T family will have more than 80 different product types including gates, buffers, line drivers, transceivers, latches and flip-flops. The first 24 devices are now in volume production.

Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, is the eighth largest semiconductor supplier in the world (according to Dataquest's preliminary 1998 ranking by sales). Philips Semiconductors' innovations in digital audio, video, and mobile technology position the company as a leader in the consumer, multimedia and wireless communications markets. Sales offices are located in all major markets around the world and are supported by systems labs.
