New SRAM-based device ideally suited for designers of "real-time" applications
Philips Semiconductors, a top supplier of complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs), today announced the CoolRunner 320. The new device combines high speed, low power, deterministic timing, wide logic, high density and high I/O count into a single chip. Combining these features into a single device provides designers with higher reliability and the ability to implement logic designs without sacrificing performance for power. "The CoolRunner advantage is Philips' patented Fast Zero Power (FZP) and eXtended Programmable Logic Array (XPLA) architecture," said Reno Sanchez, international product marketing manager of Philips Semiconductors' Programmable Products Business Line. The fusion of these technologies allows large numbers of macrocells to be combined with high I/O count and speed in a compact package. The 320 macrocell device is the perfect compliment to our portfolio which includes the world's first 960 macrocell CPLD." The 3-volt SRAM-based 320 macrocell device is ideally suited for designers building "real-time" applications such as telecom switches, videoconference systems, simulators, high-end testers, and emulators that are expected to respond immediately to changing input conditions. The device offers pin-to-pin delays of 7.5 nanoseconds, and standby currents of less than 100 microamps, and consumes less than 300 milliamps at 100 MHz. Software support is available from third parties and Philips Semiconductors directly. The environments currently supporting the CoolRunner 320 include Exemplar Logic, Synopsys, Cadence, Mentor, OrCAD, Synplicity, Viewlogic and Philips Semiconductors' own XPLA Professional. Samples of the CoolRunner 320 (part number: PZ3320C for commercial temperature ranges and PZ3320N in industrial temperature ranges) are currently available, with target production this quarter. The device is available in both a 256-pin ball grid array (BGA) package with 192 I/O and a 160-pin low profile quad flat pack (LQFP) package. Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, is the eighth largest semiconductor supplier in the world (according to Dataquest's preliminary 1998 ranking by sales). Philips Semiconductors' innovations in digital audio, video, and mobile technology position the company as a leader in the consumer, multimedia and wireless communications markets. Sales offices are located in all major markets around the world and are supported by systems labs. CoolRunner, FZP and XPLA are trademarks of Philips Electronics North America. |
