Metrowerks to Ship CodeWarrior for Philips TriMedia

Austin, Texas - November 3, 1998-Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ: MTWKF, TSE/ME:MWK) announced today it will this month begin shipping CodeWarrior for Philips TriMedia™ software development tools targeting TriMedia digital signal processors.

The Philips Trimedia TM-1000 'media processor' uses a parallel very long instruction word (VLIW) architecture combined with a software environment that supports application development in high-level languages. The result is a single-chip processor designed specifically for multimedia. Use of VLIW technology allows low-cost silicon that achieves up to four billion operations per second (BOPS) in the first generation TriMedia processor. TriMedia performance is ideal for multimedia tasks such as MPEG-2 video, Digital Video Disc (DVD), AC-3 audio, H.32x video telephony, real-time 3D graphics, communications and more.

CodeWarrior for Philips TriMedia is a comprehensive set of software development tools for the multimedia digital signal processing (DSP) market. Hosted on Windows® 95/98, Windows NT® and Macintosh® System 7.5 or later and supporting the C programming language, the CodeWarrior for Philips TriMedia integrated development environment (IDE) includes a project manager, editor, class browser, highly optimizing compiler, source- and assembly-level debugger, stand-alone assembler, linker, debug monitor, TriMedia simulator, and kernel-awareness for pSOS+™.

"CodeWarrior for Philips Trimedia brings a whole new level of effectiveness to creating multimedia DSP applications on TriMedia processors," said Greg Galanos, president and chief technology officer, Metrowerks. "Easy-to-use, industrial strength development solutions are key components for enabling multimedia DSP developers to increase productivity and reduce time to market. We are pleased to make CodeWarrior technology available to TriMedia developers."

"Good development tools are critical to the success of any platform," said Cees Hartgring, vice president and general manager, TriMedia Business Line. "We're very pleased to be working with Metrowerks to bring the power and ease-of-use of CodeWarrior to TriMedia developers."
