Philips Semiconductors endorsing New Open Chip Architecture Platform Interface

Philips is one of a number of leading smart card industry players that have recently endorsed a new open, standardised interface approach to simplify the integration of an operating system onto an integrated circuit. Known as "OCAPI™" (Open Chip Architecture Platform Interface) the specification has been developed by smart card security specialists platform seven.

The introduction of OCAPI™ brings a range of benefits to smart card development, namely: card software is easier to port from chip to chip; operating systems benefit from a standardised low level interface to hardware; and chip technologies become easier to evaluate and use. Together, these benefits can result in lower card development costs and a shorter time-to-market.

OCAPI™ is intended for open industry adoption and is available for use on a royalty free licence basis.

If you are interested in using OCAPI™, you can find out more here: (Internet access required) http://www.platform7.com/ocapi/index.htm
