Philips is one of a number of leading smart card industry players that have recently endorsed a new open, standardised interface approach to simplify the integration of an operating system onto an integrated circuit. Known as "OCAPI" (Open Chip Architecture Platform Interface) the specification has been developed by smart card security specialists platform seven. The introduction of OCAPI brings a range of benefits to smart card development, namely: card software is easier to port from chip to chip; operating systems benefit from a standardised low level interface to hardware; and chip technologies become easier to evaluate and use. Together, these benefits can result in lower card development costs and a shorter time-to-market. OCAPI is intended for open industry adoption and is available for use on a royalty free licence basis. If you are interested in using OCAPI, you can find out more here: http://www.platform7.com/ocapi/index.htm |
