PC cards are too large for digital cameras, hand-held
PCs, and other small and lightweight equipment.
CompactFlash® is a small memory card
proposed by SanDisk Corporation of the USA.
The electrical and interface specifications conform to the specifications for
the PC card ATA and True-IDE, but the package dimensions are about one-third of
those of a typical PC card in area ratio.
The CFA (CompactFlash Association) is the promoter of
CompactFlash®. CompactFlash®,
a trademark of SanDisk Corporation, is licensed to the CFA.
Renesas has developed new control cards of the multilevel
AND type, 256 MB, and compatible with flash memory, which enables an interleave
of up to 6 ways.
These cards incorporate Hitachi multilevel AND type 256
Mb flash memory, which has an enlarged replacement/deletion unit and enables fast
rewriting, which is a more important factor for a storage medium.
